Sounds Fly: Music Writing - Steven Pratt

Sounds Fly: Music Writing Paperback – 24 Nov 2017

“Writing about music is like dancing about architecture” —Martin Mull

Sounds Fly, 21 slices of writing about music and musicians by an artist and musician, collects together poems, essays, liner notes, and reviews about his friends and collaborators—a rare selection of underground non-fiction that informs and delights at once. With the returning theme of music and language, Fly fishes for examples within the works of the musician Sun Ra, poet activist John Sinclair, philosopher writer Robert Anton Wilson, and other literary figures such as James Joyce, Ezra Pound and Charles Olson. Sounds Fly weaves together ideas picked up from the study of classic works of modernism, with writings about and inside of music. Good music for me is honest music, from the heart. This is my attempt to pull it down and back to the fallible word. Music, most high and perfect, concrete evidence of what philosophy, mathematics and science strive to attain.
